Description
The book presents wave phenomena in different media with interacting mechanical, electromagnetic and other fields. Equations describing wave propagation in linear and non-linear elastic media are followed by equations of rheological models, models with internal rotational degrees of freedom and non-local interactions. Equations for coupled fields: thermal, elastic, electromagnetic, piezoelectric, and magneto-spin with adequate boundary conditions are also included. Wave phenomena in all the above mentioned media are investigated in both unbounded and bounded regions and on surfaces (Part III). The second part of the book is devoted to the investigation of plane, cylindrical and spherical plastic waves. Also the unique phenomenon of plastic wave resonance is presented. Information about shock waves ends this part. Part III is devoted to an extensive investigation of surface waves in different media and with coupled fields, on plane and curved surfaces. The description of wave propagation in stochastic, unbounded and bounded, media is preceded by helpful mathematical preliminaries. The book, together with the related monograph Vibrations (Elsevier, 1992), gives information about dynamical phenomena in different media and fields, which is of considerable use to scientists and graduate students.
