Description
Jacek Brodzki's book "An Introduction to K-theory and Cyclic Cohomology" is an extended version of lecture series he gave at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan in April 1995. The book provides a concise introduction to K-theory and cyclic cohomology, stressing the connections between the two theories. Apart from the now classical results in cyclic cohomology, it contains an exposition of the recent advances in the field, due to Cuntz and Quillen, together with an outline of their proof of the excision property in periodic cyclic cohomology.
Also presented in the book is an extension of the Cuntz-Quillen formalism to the entire cyclic cohomology of Banach algebras and its applications.
The book is intended as a guide for postgraduate students and mathematicians working in related areas of mathematics.
Jacek Brodzki studied theoretical physics at the university of Wroclaw and received his Ph.D. degree from Oxford University. He is now a lecturer at the University of Exeter.
