Description
The International Exposition of 1906 in Milan was dedicated to communications and transport, and was, at the time, one of the most important events ever organized in Milan, or in Italy, for that matter. Milan intended to use the 1906 Expo as a way of celebrating the inauguration of the Simplon tunnel, which provided an important access to Europe - not only for goods but also for people and, hence, the circulation of creative ideas. The event, which drew a large number of visitors from Italy and abroad, was planned as a vision of the future rather than a celebration of the past. It offered a showcase for all kinds of new technology--novelties which would revolutionize life in the new century.
