Description
From inside dust jacket... The monograph presents a modern explanation of the general principles, theorems and mathematical methods available for strength evaluation of structures subjected to repeated loading and thermal changes (the 'shakedown theory'). Particular attention is given to applications of the theory: examples of rotating discs, pressure vessels, plates and shells under operating conditions which are characteristic contact problems are also explained. The further generalization of the shakedown theory concerning cyclic inelastic behaviour of structures is developed. From Authors' Preface... ...In this book we give a systematic presentation of the theorems and methods of the shakedown theory in their up-to-date interpretation. We apply these to solve a considerable number of problems concerning incremental collapse and alternating plastic flow of discs, plates, shells, pressure vessels and other structures. Special attention is paid to the examination of mechanisms of progressive geometry changes under thermal cycling. Some isothermal contact problems of practical interest are also considered. The last chapter is devoted to the problem of direst determination (without studying the deformation history) of the steady stress cycle parameters in the presence of repeated inelastic deformations.
