Description
Like other American industrialists such as Carnegie and Frick, William and Anna Singer used their wealth to collect art, establish museums and lend support to artists and socially motivated projects. Between 1900 and 1940 the Singers collected more than 3,000 paintings, works on paper, sculptures and other artefacts. The collection is now spread across four locations: The Singer Museum, Laren; Villa Dalheim in Noorse Olden; the West-Noorse Museum of Applied Arts, Bergen, and the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts - the first Museum the Singers founded.
