Dutch Art Nouveau and Book Design 1892-1903

This richly illustrated book describes the origins and development of the movement which produced the contributions of Dutch book design to the Art Nouveau period known as Nieuwe Kunst in the Netherlands. This period of book design was influenced by a number of figures in the Netherlands and abroad, including: Walter Crane, William Morris, Shannon, Rickets, Viollet-le-duc and the Dutch architect P.J.H. Cuypers. This first English translation of the writings of Ernst Braches considered by many as the standard work on the subject traces the origins and development of the movement, the specific designs and demands of books produced in this period and the use of nature-based origins in designs of the period, for example. Illustrated throughout with black and white images of designs, motifs, and images, along with section of full colour illustrations, the publication also contains a comprehensive chronology of book images alongside bibliographic information.
