📖 Description
Investigations and studies on the island of Naxos, the largest and most dertile of the Cyclades, have brought to light a great number of monumental paintings and inscriptions in hundredsof Byzantine churches. The wall paintings discovered at Naxos exceed by far all that has been found in the other islands of the Cycladic group. An extensive and valuable iconographic material, quite often in successive painting layers dating from the 7th to the 14th century, was discovered and exposed presenting a rich and varied range of subjects of a high artistic quality.
