Beyond Words

Edited from nearly 300 preserved letters and documents in the Means family collection, written between 1917 and 1997, this work traces more than a family history. Interspersed with nearly 100 original photographs, it pays tribute to the dedicated mission and education efforts of the Reverend Paul Banwell Means and his wife, Nathalie. It also outlines the dramatic historical and political changes taking place in India and Southeast Asia, with Paul and Nathalie's first-hand accounts reinforcing their significance. Of some interest is Paul's theological research in Nazi Germany during the 1930s, and its impact upon his own views regarding relations between church and state. A time-line and bibliography is provided, as well as a comprehensive index.
