Description
The Iban are the largest indigenous society on Borneo, and their language is the primary medium for at least half-a-million speakers. Although there are no hard numbers, Iban probably is a second or trade language for another quarter-of-a-million speakers, including Chinese, Malay, and Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, and Kajang. Most Iban live in Sarawak, but speakers of Ibanic languages are found in all the political divisions of the island.
