Telecommunications progress in the Middle East has been rapid in the past few years, as countries attempt to move into the information age. Wide disparities exist within this area, however, because of differences in financial and other resources, political stability, and openness to investment. Growth is being driven by privatization, cellular technology and Internet development, among other factors.
