Basic Procedures for Soil Sampling and Core Drilling

This non-technical book is presented as a source of elementary information on generally accepted field procedures and on equipment utilization to obtain accurate samples and cores of both soil and rock. This has been done by necessity since the book is intended as a simple guide to the builder, architect, construction contractor, and others in industries desiring fundamental information

The first section of the book describes techniques and tools for sampling as they apply to investigations for construction purposes although many of the procedures are pertinent to mineralogical or agricultural investigations as well.

The second part of this book is a short section on safety and first aid. This section is a chapter from the manual used in the Acker Drill Company's 'Core Drill Operator's 'On-the 'Job' Training Course.

The third part of this book describes the basic procedures of core drilling and demonstrates primarily through pictures the proper choice and use of equipment.
