Dynamic Problems of Thermoelasticity

The appearance of this translation of Professor Nowacki's book on dynamic thermoelasticity brings to the western world the first fundamental monograph in this field. It is a field which was to a large extent developed by Professor Nowacki and his pupils at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Concerned with problems in which the dynamic interaction of mechanical, thermal, and electromagnetic effects are important, problems of dynamic thermoelasticity are arising ever more frequently in connection with materials and structures employed in the aerospace and nuclear fields, and in other specialized applications. This book presents the theoretical foundations of the subject in a context useful to practicing engineers and scientists. It also describes, through examples and discussions, the magnitudes of the coupling effects which distinguish the subject from traditional thermoelasticity treatments. The editors of this volume have made every attempt to ensure that the English version represents a faithful translation of the original Polish text.
