Description

ADVENTURE IN THE DEEP! One diver, alone under the treacherous waters of the Mediterranean, sets out to sink a German fleet. Each dive was like a journey into death. Encased in a rubber suit, loaded with diving gear and weapons, carrying high explosives, the frogman was a messenger of destruction to the German warships. And as he hunted for them, they hunted for him. He could die from mines, or from hand grenades dropped from the ships he hunted, or from the accidental explosion of the tricky mines he carried. Most dangerous of all, he could find himself trapped in a desperate underwater duel, with the sharks waiting to carry off the losers. From inside front cover: They felt the deck tilt ever so slightly forward and a slight pressure on the eardrums. Gradually the noise and the orders stopped. Instead of the throbbing of the diesels that they'd gotten used to hearing, there was a whining sound. "When are we going to go down, Pete?" Ted asked. "We're down. At least we're supposed to be down." He looked at the dial on the bulkhead, and said, "We're down sixty feet, but we're sure as hell going to hear about it." "Why?" Parks asked. Before Pete could answer, Morris's voice came over the speaker again. "That was the lousiest dive I've ever seen in the boats," the disgusted voice said as it filled every nook and cranny aboard. "I didn't get a green board for thirty-nine seconds. It took seventeen seconds just to clear the bridge and close the hatch. I want that down to eleven seconds. It was lousy, gentlemen, lousy. A disgrace to the service."
