Asia/Pacific Telecommunications Predictions 2005

The IDC study looks at our Asia/Pacific Telecommunications Predictions 2005 where we present consensus of the top 10 predictions for the 2005 telecommunications market in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region. Drawing from the latest IDC research and from a brainstorm amongst IDC's regional telecommunications and network analysts, we take a high-level look at trends, vendor as well as service provider strategies, and new technologies that will emerge with major impact on the industry and its players in 2005.

"The key themes shaping both the IT and the telecom sector are convergence and consolidation. True 'convergence' is still some years away but the seeds have been sown and clearly, the lines between 'fixed' versus 'wireless' communications are blurring with boundaries being tested and crossed," says Claus Mortensen, senior analyst, Telecommunications, IDC Asia/Pacific. "IDC expects this central theme of convergence will continue to run over the course of the next few years."
