Description
The problems of communication are a challenge for the innovative mind in both science and art. Like the educational process, communication concepts and media are interdisciplinary, and they involve the complete sensorial system of their audience. Our central neural systems are continually involved in a dialogue with the direct and halo effects of electronic media such as TV in a way that compels us to resolve inpouring visual and audial data into comprehendible forms by an act of communicative closure.
But if our senses are not sufficiently educated to make this resolution, we can only retreat from the confrontation into unresponsive, static positions, denying ourselves both the educational value and the historically proven advantages of accepting and using new communications media. Without confrontation, there can be no closure; without closure, there can be no communication. This book attempts to demonstrate an integrity of form and content which is essential to communicative closure. But realization of the potentials of communication the technological age will depend largely upon the creative coalition of the educator, the artist, and the scientist. With these combined resources it will then be possible to fashion an inclusive correspondence between education, art, and technology that will serve, through more effective communication, to accelerate the civilizing process of mankind.
