Description

In the Expositor the commentator and scholar Buddhaghosa explains the meaning of terms that occur in the Dhammasangani, a Buddhist scripture, part of the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism. Dhammasangini defines it as "that which having come into being ceases to be." The transient character of all things mental or material is an emphatic assertion found throughout the Buddhist doctrine. The correct understanding of transience, is a primary condition for right knowledge. So then the Dhammasangani begins by dealing the states of the mind and moves on to the material world. The interpretations provided by Buddhaghosa have generally constituted the orthodox understanding of Theravada scriptures since at least the 12th century AD. He is generally recognized by both Western scholars and Theravadins as the most important commentator of the Theravada. 555 pages of text in two volumes
