Description

This IDC study presents a forecast and analysis of gigabit/terabit and high-end routers within the carrier network equipment framework. The study is considered by region: Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), India, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Greater China, and Korea. An analysis of the current situation is provided as well as future assumptions and forecasts for 2004 to 2009. Specific data is provided to substantiate the analysis. Dominant vendors are considered in this study, with attention given to larger players such as Cisco, Juniper, and Huawei.

The Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) or APEJ revenue contributed by the high-end and gigabit/terabit routers category for 2003 amounts to US$653.60 million and the estimated revenue of this category for 2004 is expected to reach US$892.12 million with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.14% for 2004 to 2009.

"For younger markets, significant growth is expected in the high-end segment with increased investments from carriers to support the growing demand for new technologies such as 3G networks, broadband-dependent applications, and the voice and data convergence trend. For more mature markets, spending is expected to be sustained as service providers continue the upkeep of networks with continued replacements to match demand and speed uptakes," says Ekta Aswani, associate analyst, Networking Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
