From the author: Husbands and wives experience role changes when they become caregivers for their spouses disabled due to stroke. This pilot study examined the feelings and beliefs of these primary caregivers. Caregivers reported a high degree of dislike for the traditional marital role responsibilities of the opposite gender spouse. Nurses can use anticipatory guidance and other strategies to prepare care. givers and assist them in their new roles.
