From the supplier: Students at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill are using a sophisticated wireless network to obtain high-speed Internet access, e-mail and access to the campus intranet from many locations. UNC's Cisco Systems Aironet wireless network technology supports a new laptop requirement that will eventually reach 15,000 undergraduates. UNC's computerization move has the biggest scope among US research universities and takes many unique approaches. The university has deployed Cisco Aironet 340 series wireless access points in seven academic buildings as well as libraries, student stores, the student union and the administration building; each has a reach extending to adjacent courtyards and popular student gathering places. Students can buy their own Cisco wireless PC Cards or check them out at the graduate library. The technology facilitates collaboration among students in small groups and can turn virtually any campus location into a learning environment. The wireless network supports a wired network.
