From the supplier: The Comprehensive Competency Program (CCP) uses a high-tech office-like atmosphere to teach remedial skills to high school students in danger of dropping out of Albert Sidney Johnston High School in Austin, TX. Funded by a variety of private sources, the program is the product of a partnership between the American Institute for Learning (AIL) and the high school. Based on a core curriculum of printed material, the self-paced program also incorporates textbooks, audio-visual material, and computer-aided instruction (CAI) software. Although the CCP can be run without computers, interaction with the Apple, IBM and Epson computers in the lab motivate students to work. Of the initial 37 students involved in the program's first term of operation, 35 returned to school the following term, in a district with a dropout rate close to 25 percent. The lab plans to acquire an English as a Second Language component and an IBM Principles of the Alphabet Literacy Systems (PALS) lab.
