From the supplier: Developing countries (DCs) faced with adjusting macroeconomic policies frequently lack the administrative experience. To improve macroeconomic management of DCs, The World Bank's Economic Development Institute was set up over 30 years ago to provide mid-career training for senior development officials of countries borrowing from the Bank. Based on EDI's experience, four key lessons on approaches to mid-career training can be drawn: the general education system should be used to impart to future government officials basic notions and skills; opportunities for countries dealing with complex economic and political experiences should share their experience; training must be directed towards the middle level of government; and training can be used to identify ways to implement civil service reform.
