From the supplier: A World Bank study analyzing the effectiveness of 51 adjustment loans in 15 developing countries between fiscal years 1980 and 1987 reveals that the loans have been used to support agriculture and public sector reform in some countries, and have been used for trade and financial sector policies in other countries. Results also show that exchange rate management, agricultural pricing, financial sector reforms, and energy policy changes have been successful, while tax reforms and industrial policies have been less successful. Recommendations for future adjustment lending have been determined from the study and point to: the importance of government commitment; the importance of economic growth; and the importance of realism.
