From the supplier: Toolbook Short Story is an innovative application designed to help literature students understand the theme and context of the short story. The program is based on the Microsoft Windows 3.0 graphical user interface and the Asymetrix Toolbook program development software running on a Zenith Data Systems Z-386/20 microcomputer. Three design goals were implemented by creator Charles May, an English professor at California State Univ, Long Beach, CA. He wanted to get students to read a story in a way that would transform its linear structure into a non-linear thematic appreciation; encourage students to read with a view to the nodes of the intertextual network of the story; and finally to make them conscious of these procedures for further reference. The Toolbook Short Story consists of background graphics, stories condensed onto Toolbook pages, pause prompts, hotwords, scratch pad, writing prompts, literary terms, bibliographic information and rough draft. All of these features utilize the Toolbook program's pop-up windows and other features.
