From the supplier: Many employers and workers' compensation insurance companies are using preferred provider organizations (PPOs) as the most cost-effective method for providing medical care for work-related injuries and illnesses. Faced with increased competition in the health care industry and a surplus of doctors, PPOs will often discount fees to insurers to maintain or increase their market share.
