From the supplier: The property and casualty insurance industry plan to include the rating and enforcement of building codes as a new factor in determining insurance rates. Some insurers contend that faulty enforcement of building codes was responsible for much of the $15.5 billion damages from Hurricane Andrew in summer 1992. Building code ratings will not be included in rate setting for at least four years when computer programs to grade buildings and new classifications will have been developed.
