From the supplier: The purpose of Factory Mutual Engineering and Research's testing facility in West Gloucester, RI, is to research fires and explosions in industrial settings. The facility opened in 1967 and has since conducted over 13,000 fire tests. One of the center's three buildings simulates warehouse conditions, another houses the hydraulics laboratory and the third is where explosions are researched. Fire tests involve burning materials found in modern warehouses. Instruments in the test area record such data as fire spread, speed and gases emitted.
