From the supplier: The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 was signed into law on Feb 5, 1993. A 1990 study by the Small Business Administration showed that it costs more to terminate employees for illness and childbirth than to grant requests for leaves. It can cost up to $3152 per termination and from 97 cents to $97.78 a week for leave. Under the new law, private companies that employ 50 or more workers must provide up to 12 weeks unpaid leave for injury, illness, birth, adoption or to care for a seriously ill child, spouse or parent. Eligible employees must have worked for the company for one year.
