From the supplier: The planning formality inherent in 188 small business enterprises was investigated with respect to the strategic decision procedure, the planning approaches employed and the post-planning performance of the company. The study, which evaluated the formal planners against the non-formal planners, revealed that the former more often employed an exhaustive decision process and a broader viewpoint of strategic choices. This leads to higher profitability and growth rate as compared to the non-formal planners.
