From the supplier: The application of group dynamics and interpersonal relations principles to effective work team management is examined. The ubiquitous work team is gaining in popularity as a work system designed to best meet the challenges of a technology-driven marketplace. Its flexibility provides great advantages in speedy and creative responses to market opportunities, but poses difficulties as well, including diverse viewpoints, role conflict, power struggles and groupthink, or the tendency toward uncritical collective thinking. Improving the operation of a work team requires discriminating selection of team members according to interpersonal skills; training in skills such as listening, assertiveness and conflict management; and choosing and appreciating the team leader. Leadership in the work team requires persuasive and motivational skills, judicious use of authority in managing boundaries and constraints and effective liaison and monitoring abilities.
