From the supplier: The Technology Network Ties (TNT) system in New York state is a hardware, software, and communications network used by school districts, Boards of Cooperative Educational Services, libraries, educational agencies, and the state educational department. TNT began in 1984/85, with the first phase building the network infrastructure. A major use of TNT is electronic mail, which is provided by IBM's Professional Office System (PROFS). Other services provided by TNT include Job Link, which permits guidance counselors to call up current department of labor job listings; a Teacher Career Recruitment Clearinghouse to gather and distribute information about job vacancies and candidates; a student information system that has biographical information, attendance records, and academic progress; financial management services; and a Youth-At-Risk Electronic Clearinghouse that permits coordinators to access electronic messaging services, computer conferencing, and a data base of resources and programs. Work is underway to connect TNT with INFONET, CONNECT-PAC, BITNET, and AppleLink. The state plans to use TNT to put New York's 'Vision of the Future' into every classroom in New York.
