From the supplier: Instructors at Arizona State University developed and implemented a hypertext-based learning system called Odyssey to supplement a traditional introductory lecture course in humanities with a self-paced, active learning experience. The goal was to increase the amount of time students spent learning through their own efforts and decrease the time spent copying information. There was a conscious attempt to avoid a computer-assisted instruction system that still relied on rote learning. The user interface uses the metaphor of a voyage among five islands in a lagoon. Students can use various tools to look at each island's information at a disciplinary level and refine their focus to look at narrower topics. The package includes time management and e-mail capabilities. A dictionary defines many of the words in the lecture notes and provides a list of each occurrence.
