The use of Chapter 11 if applied wisely, may ensure a company's long-term viability. Strategic application of Chapter 11 is to file when a company, on the verge of bankruptcy, is still able to operate and not after its resources are completely exhausted. However, Chapter 11 is not an easy way out for failing businesses. It entails costly court proceedings and may have negative psychological impact.
