From the supplier: U.S. RECorp Sr VP Loic Humphreys, in remarks before the Reinsurance Rendez-Vous de Septembre, stated that the entry of non-professional reinsurance companies into the reinsurance market has transformed catastrophic reinsurance into a vehicle for transferring risk, a role it was never meant to play. The reinsurance industry, which is one-tenth the size of the insurance industry, has now assumed 50% of the risk of the insurance industry. Such a ratio is dangerous, but Humphreys was optimistic and stated his belief that sanity is returning to the market.
