From the supplier: Cumberland Community College in New Jersey established a pilot program in which the English 101 class became a computer training center. The English 101 class was a logical selection since it is a required course for all students. The dual goal of the project, supported by private grants and state funding, is to familiarize students with the process of writing and at the same time prepare them for the job market by imparting basic word processing and computing skills. The writing laboratory is comprised of 24 Apple Macintosh Plus microcomputers with 30Mbyte external hard drives, an AppleTalk network, an Apple Macintosh IIcx serving as a teacher's station and six Apple ImageWriter II printers. In a typical day, students working on papers for other courses from science to history also utilize the laboratory. A survey of 500 students who had participated in the program was overwhelmingly positive.
