From the supplier: The movements that produced the rejection of communist forms of government in Eastern Europe in the 1980s and 1990s resulted from an inevitable desire of people to meet their intellectual and material needs. While the political foundation of socialism created a system of communal management, it overlooked the human desire to construct its own destiny and to develop the means to benefit from life's rewards. The transformation to democracy and free market enterprise in Eastern Europe has wavered, however, because goals have not been defined, nor have conditions been created to withstand the change from the right to guaranteed subsidies to the right to create an environment of economic independence.
