From the supplier: Key 20th-century developments in the history of expanding, or sponge, rubber are reviewed. Patents were issued in 1946, and the Sponge Rubber Products Co launched production of play balls in 1923. The closed cell and closed cell sheet processes evolved during the 1930s and 1940s, when chemical blowing agents were introduced and produced by various US and German firms. Other key innovations included the automotive sponge, the continuous open cell sponge, and nitrile-vinyl foams.
