From the supplier: The Hartford Plaza Tower Building that houses part of the ITT Hartford Insurance Group's Connecticut headquarters underwent a major renovation/asbestos abatement project without attracting too much attention. The $40 million project, completed from Jan 1990 to Aug 1992, was executed using a phased construction approach designed to minimize disruption of daily operations. The carefully coordinated plan was developed by ITT Hartford in cooperation with Entek Environmental Services Inc and Stecker, Labau, Arneill, McManus Architects Inc. The plan eliminated the need to relocate employees to another building and gave building managers enough time to coordinate the movement of employees, equipment, computers and furniture. Measures were also taken to protect employees while asbestos abatement was being carried out, including using sophisticated systems that ensured that contaminated air did not escape to working areas.
