From the supplier: Many of the thematic and character elements of William Faulkner's 'Light in August' parallel Sherwood Anderson's novel 'Windy McPherson's Son.' Both novels tell of sons who attack their fathers in portraying the misery created by society when love is denied and replaced by guilt. Persecutorial gossip and oedipal desires are major themes of both works, and Faulkner attributes many of the characteristics of the son in Anderson's work to characters in 'Light in August.' The parallels and differences between these two works are discussed.
