From the supplier: The success of Japan's R&D consortia in promoting science and technology encouraged US firms to organize their own consortium. However, the US failed to see that the success of the Japanese consortia rested mainly on how they were formed and operated and not on the competitive performance of individual firms. The failure of the US consortium also rooted from its use of diverse strategies instead of having a general priority industry to focus its R&D.
