From the supplier: An investigation was conducted to determine the differences in services and prices between airport hubs dominated by either one or two carriers. The findings showed that hub monopolies result in route domination, which in turn raises the prices into and out of the monopoly hubs. In the presence of a second major carrier, route competition leads to lower average prices. Therefore, it is in the interest of consumers to have two or more carriers operating hubs in a single airport.
