From the supplier: The Brussels and Lugano Conventions provide rules governing jurisdiction and the enforcement of judgments in European Community and European Free Trade Area states. Although Article 16 governs certain exclusive jurisdiction issues and parties to insurance and consumer contract disputes may choose either the insurance company's or their own jurisdiction, the alternative grounds for jurisdiction in many cases provide the opportunity for jurisdiction shopping. Attorneys should then be first to file in the court most advantageous for their client.
