From the supplier: Angela Carter has subverted patriarchal notions of femininity in her novels 'The Passion of New Eve' and 'Nights at the Circus.' In 'The Passions of New Eve' she develops the theme of sexuality as a social construct and in 'Nights at the Circus' she reinterprets the Victorian iconography of women as angels in the house. Carter questions patriarchal notions of gender in both works and by raising these questions she destroys degrading myths about women.
