From the supplier: International Finance Corp. (IFC) chief Jannik Lindbaek believes that his organization's primary role will remain that of a catalyst for private sector development in Third World countries. According to Lindbaek, the IFC should experience substantial growth in the future as the worldwide trend toward market-based productive activity accelerates. Lindbaek expects much of the IFC's efforts to be concentrated on infrastructure projects and capital market development. He also expects the IFC to remain deeply involved in certain priority programs, such as the Russian privatization initiative and the development of capital markets in emerging economies like Vietnam, South Africa and Palestine. Lindbaek also hopes to strengthen the IFC's involvement in environmental services sector by developing new guidelines to ensure that all IFC investments are environmentally sound.
