From the supplier: The main thrust of the World Bank's private sector development arm will be to create a more supportive operating environment for private business and catalyze funding for private enterprises, particularly in support of long-term investments in infrastructure. To accomplish this, the World Bank's policy-making body is differentiating its lending products and policies to match the need of individual countries. For low-income and transitional economies, broad-based efforts are being made at putting legal and regulatory frameworks in place, developing banking systems, and pushing forward with privatizations to help establish a vibrant private sector. For middle-income countries, the focus will be on emulating the experience of the fast-growing East Asian economies that grew on the back of strong inflows of private capital. For advanced countries, the focus will fall on the development of capital markets for long-term investment finance.
