From the supplier: Real estate investment trusts (REITs) continue to attract investors contrary to the belief of some market observers that it is already past the peak for these investment vehicles. Analysts predict that the REIT environment will evolve such that there will only be a few very strong REITs and a lot of smaller, weaker ones. The largest investors, including mutual funds and insurance companies, will flock to the strongest REITs. One recently formed REIT that has proven to be very successful is Gables Residential Trust. It was created by six Trammell Crow Residential executives. It attracted investors because it pays the highest possible dividend, has a highly competent management team, offers a quality product, owns properties in good locations and has development capacity. The formation of the company is recounted.
