From the supplier: The cognitive process theory is an alternative to the behavioral and situational explanations for leadership effectiveness. Unlike the two approaches, the new theory is based on an analysis of cognitive processes and how these shape the behavior of leaders. A previous study concluded that the thinking processes of leaders are influenced by the information they receive about the performance of their subordinates, the characteristics of these subordinates, and the nature of the task and environmental conditions. Although cognitive processes are involved in all day-to-day activities, they are especially useful in several vital managerial functions, such as performance appraisal, communication, interpersonal relations and training. A case study of an Indian manager is presented to demonstrate every step of this new approach.
