From the supplier: The amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure took effect on Dec 1, 1993 after Congress failed to amend or stop any of the changes by that date. The amendments were proposed by the Judicial Conference of the United States, forwarded to the US Supreme Court in 1992 and to Congress in April 1993. The mandatory pre-discovery disclosure provisions in the new Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26(a)(1) are the best-known change. Although the ideal behind the rule was the reduction of discovery costs and court delay, the result could be increased cost as opposing sides fight over compliance with the rule. Other rule changes are discussed.
