2 and 4Gbps SAN Infrastructure Gets a Boost with New LTO-3 Tape Automation

This IDC Flash analyzes the release by Quantum Corp. of LTO-3. This tape technology in SAN-oriented archiving storage systems provides, for the first time, a strong business value reason for moving Fibre Channel (FC) SAN infrastructure from 1Gbps to 2Gbps and 4Gbps data rates. Only these newer, higher data rates can fully exploit the top speed characteristics of LTO-3–based midrange tapes and tape libraries.
