From the supplier: The Kobe earthquake revealed the ineptitude of public officials in public relations management. After the quake, officials were not able to effectively handle the crisis at hand, further risking the lives of the citizens affected by the quake. They refused initially to send Japan's military troops to help in rescue efforts. Worse, they made it appear that they were not grateful for relief aid offers made by other countries. Because the government was actually thankful for the foreign support, it attempted to clear this miscommunication. Unfortunately, the spokesperson chosen to meet the press during a conference to emphasize the gratitude of Japan was highly ineffective. This only worsened the situation as well as the image of Japan in the eyes of its citizenry and the global community. To avoid similar public relations embarrassments, Japanese government officials as well as the public should be educated on the value of public relations.
