From the supplier: Regulated investment company (RIC) distributions characterized as short-term capital gains are to be treated as corpus when such distributions are made to an estate or trust. Whether distributions are considered corpus or income depends on the relevant local law and not on IRS definitions of taxable income. Alternatively, it could be argued that IRC section 852 characterizes such distributions as ordinary income that would be taxed as such and treated as income, not corpus, for accounting purposes.
